About John & His Creative Journey
From his earliest years, John’s remarkable creativity and artistic flair set him apart. His passion for art led him to study Art and Design at Bournemouth and Poole College, where his journey as a professional artist began.
After qualifying, John’s career took him to London as an interior designer and window dresser, refining his eye for aesthetics and composition. This experience sparked a lifelong dedication to creating work that combines design, imagination, and technical excellence.
Back in his native Dorset, John’s creativity took a new direction—custom car design and airbrushing. He founded Auto Fantasy, a bespoke car paint studio that gained widespread recognition for its striking, hand-painted designs. His airbrushed works, known for their incredible realism, captured vivid scenes of wildlife and people with extraordinary precision and depth.
As his career evolved, John’s artistic curiosity led him into sculpture. His wooden garden sculptures quickly attracted national attention, earning him an appearance on the BBC’s Blue Peter—and the coveted Blue Peter badge. This recognition brought new opportunities, including commissions from international clients.
Always pushing the boundaries of creativity, John mastered the art of artistic blacksmithing, allowing him to create dynamic, life-sized metal sculptures inspired by animal forms. His breathtaking 9’6” rearing stallion became a showpiece at the prestigious Sandpolo event in Sandbanks, Poole, cementing his reputation as a leading sculptor and designer.
Today, John works from his self-built studio on the edge of the New Forest, where the surrounding landscape continues to inspire his work. His latest passion is the rare and ancient technique of Verre Églomisé—the delicate art of gilding glass with gold and copper leaf. Through this process, John creates exquisite, light-catching works that blend natural beauty with timeless elegance.
Each of John’s creations—whether painted, sculpted, or gilded—is a reflection of his boundless creativity, technical mastery, and deep connection to the world around him. His work continues to captivate collectors and admirers alike, each piece telling a story of craftsmanship, innovation, and artistic vision.
